Isabela

Isabela is a municipality that is located in northern Puerto Rico. Founded on May 21, 1819 and to pay honor to Queen Isabella of Spain.

Later, around 1750, the inhabitants of Aguada, began to settle in the village called San Antonio de Padua of Tuna in where they built a chapel to celebrate Mass Catholic. On August 26, 1819, the neighboring village of San Antonio de Padua Tuna arrived Sunday with the pastor to Prieto Barrio de la Isabela, which located on the coast and had perfect weather for planting and a pretty port visited, with the intention of establishing the people in that area.

The residents of San Antonio de la Tuna, decisively destroyed their homes and moved to this neighborhood, formally the village of Isabela, in honor of Queen Elizabeth II. Today the ruins of the hermitage of San Antonio Tuna are protected by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture and the Corporation and are part of Mabodamaca tourist attraction of Isabela.

Isabela is a municipality of Puerto Rico is located in the northwest of the island. To the north lies the Atlantic Ocean, San Sebastian to the south, east and west Quebradillas Aguadilla and Moca. Isabela is composed of 13 districts and the people (the administrative center of the city).

The city is known as the Garden of the Northwest with the flowers it was normal to see. Other names under which Isabela is known as the “Village of the Leaf goat’s-milk cheese,” for its cheese production leaf. He is known as the city of cockerels for cockfights and the quality of fighting cocks produced. Elizabeth was also recognized as the best producer of Paso Fino horses.
