Carolina

Carolina is a municipality in the metropolitan area of Puerto Rico and is highly industrialized and populated.  There are several factories that produce machines that include electronic, scientific instruments, metal containers, electrical equipment, garments, pharmaceuticals, plastics, chemicals, gum and others.

In the past, when its economy was agriculture, the main crop was Carolinasugarcane, which was produced in central Victoria.  Today, in addition to industrial development, there are important services, including tourism.  This town has modern hotels and adequate facilities in the area of Isla Verde, and the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.

One of the major tourist centers in the country is in the area of Isla Verde, where there are large and modern hotels. Other sites of interest are the mouth of Crab, the Pine Forest and La Torrecilla, Pine and San Jose. Their patron saint festivities are held on May 30th, the day of San Fernando.

It is located in the north east.  It borders the Atlantic Ocean and the city of North Loiza, Gurabo and Juncos in the South with the East Canovanas and Trujillo Alto Rio Piedras and San Juan in the west.
The relief is flat except for its southern region, where the boundaries with Juncos and Canovanas presents elevations of the Blade Asomante and on the boundaries with Gurabo. Al Norte del Barrio Barraza, Cerro Gordo reaches 293m (961 ft) high. Both blades are lower foothills of the Sierra de Luquillo.   In the north of the town, the soils are low and swampy. In this area, in the Barrio Hoyo Mulas, Cerro San Jose is only 64m (210 ft) high.
In the middle of the coast is the tip carolinense Middle, against which there is the Isla Verde, which is named this because of the famous beach. In the northeast corner, opposite the mouth of Crab, there is another small island, La Cancora. The Caves of Mount St. Joseph are in the same hill, among which the so-called Cueva del Lago are. These exist in indigenous petroglyphs.

Northeast, in the municipality of Loiza is the forest of Pine, whose description appears in the pages devoted to this town. The tip and the mouth of Crab, between Carolina and Loiza covers about 80 hectares of mangroves, and between San Juan and Carolina, around the lagoon of San Jose, there are 70 hectares of mangroves. Both areas are very rich in wildlife.
