Bayamon Sports

The Bayamon Cowboys are the representatives of the city in the National Superior Basketball League (BSN) and the team with the most wins in history with 14 and alone in Puerto Rico in obtaining five consecutive championships.

The Puerto Rico Islanders of the United Soccer Leagues First Division play at the Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel in Bayamon.
The famous first boxing match of Alexis Arguello versus Alfredo Escalera was held in Bayamon in 1978. (The equally legendary rematch was held in Rimini, Italy).  Another fight that took place in Bayamon was Ivan Calderon versus Hugo Cazares.
Bayamon Golf Course and Driving Range are new facilities occupy an area of land of 54 strings.  It is at the edge of the historic Rio Bayamon, located at the intersection PR 177 and PR 891.  These facilities can also be accessed through the Bayamon River Linear Walk.  This golf course is the only one within the metropolitan area and was designed by architects Figueroa & Figueroa Consta.  It has a driving range of two levels, a putting range, and nine holes.

It also has a store to purchase items related to this sport, as well as a food establishment known as “The Green Spot.”  The Rio Bayamon Golf Course and Driving Range offers golf lessons and is available to the general public for the development of private and hotel guest days, and is building nine additional holes to make 18 holes total.
Centro de Tenis Honda, a modern tennis center, was opened to the public during July 2002.  It provides the public with the best conditions to practice this fun sport.  Offering 16 tennis courts, the center has classes to learn basic skills and also hosts tournaments for players in wheelchairs. On average, 150 people enjoy these facilities daily.
Michael J. Frau Gym is used for physical fitness, gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics, taekwondo, boxing, and judo.
Onofre Carballeira Sports Complex has been dedicated to the memory of the legendary basketball player Onofre Carballeira Umpierre.  This site is located on the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel.  The complex offers rooms for activities and parking for 3000 vehicles.  All are under a modern system of surveillance.  Carballeira Complex is conveniently located at No. PR. 2.

The municipal government of Bayamon operates Rafael Nadal Martinez Sports Complex.  It has been renovated in keeping with such traditional facilities as Cancha Pepin Cestero and has an appropriate number of beach volleyball courts.  La Cancha Pepin Cestero was dedicated to the memory of one of the greatest players of the glorious team Bayamon Old, and has been the home of countless activities related to sports such as professional and amateur boxing, karate, judo, wrestling, basketball and volleyball among others.  One of the tennis complexes is named for the outstanding athlete Otoniel Ortiz.
Efrain Alicea Calcano Sports Complex was inaugurated in 1978.  It consists of basketball courts, a running track, a football field, two tennis courts and a swimming pool.  In October 2002 the remodeled Olympic pool was opened.  These facilities provide the general public the best conditions for the exercise of the sport of swimming.  The public can get swimming lessons there and play football.  The Sports Complex Calcano Efrain Alicea encourages development of varied sporting activities.
